Omega Foundation (OF) is a non-profit organization working in Nyanza and Western regions of Kenya primarily to promote health and build livelihoods support systems, with a major focus on health.


OF is seeking motivated candidates to fill in the following vacancy:




A.  Job Summary:

The position is responsible for timely, efficient, and safe transportation of authorized persons; conveyance and delivery of effects and goods; maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) in a clean and mechanically sound condition; and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

B.  Key Responsibilities:
  1. Perform driving duties for Omega Foundation as per assigned responsibilities, which include errands close to the office location errands and long distance trips.
  2. Keep the assigned vehicle/s in good running condition and perform routine daily checks (check oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc.) to ensure that the vehicle is in good working condition.
  3. Perform pre–trip and post trip inspection of the vehicle and attend to any noted faults and defects.
  4. Report to the supervisor immediately any mechanical defects and faults noted in the vehicle.
  5. Ensure the safety of individuals using the vehicle.
  6. Ensure that any goods and effects being transported by the vehicle are handled in a safe and cautious manner.
  7. Keep the vehicle/s in a safe place both while at station and during trips.
  8. Monitor vehicle mileage use and ensure that routine and regular service and maintenance is carried out within required run-times.
  9. Ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and tidy at all times.
  10. Ensure a functional tool kit, spare tyre, first aid box, reflectors and fire extinguisher are kept in the vehicle at all times. 
  11. Maintain accurate daily vehicle usage logbook/trip sheets, incident and accident reports, vehicle condition reports, fuel consumption reports, and any other reports that are requested from the management.
  12. Ensure that the vehicle insurance policy is always valid and organize with the supervisor for its renewal at least one month in advance of expiry date.
  13. Facilitate any inspections of the vehicle if required.
  14. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the management from time to time.

C.  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

(The knowledge, skills and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling, self-education and prior experience or on-the-job-training).

i. Level of Education:

Minimum of KCSE/“O”’ level or high school certificate.

ii. Specialized Training/Professional Qualifications:

  1. Must be a holder of a clean and valid driving license Class ‘ABCE’.
  2. AA Certificate of competency.
  3. Certificate of good conduct.
  4. Government Trade Test III on motor mechanics would be an added advantage
  5. Training in Mechanics will be an added advantage
iii. Competencies/Abilities/Skills Required:
  1. Must have ability to work and relate well with people from diverse backgrounds, and handles people in a firm but highly respectful manner.
  2. Ability to communicate well in English and Kiswahili and must be able to read and write both languages well.
  3. Must be a person of unquestionable integrity.
  4. Must be a well-organized individual who is able to coordinate tasks well and complies with given instructions.
  5. Sufficient knowledge of rules and regulations of road transport of the country.
  6. Ability to read and interpret road signs in English.
iv. Job experience:

At least 3 years’ relevant work experience preferably driving company vehicle with accident-free record.

D.  Working Conditions:

The job is conducted in an outside setting with several trips outside the city. The work has continuous exposure to different weather conditions and motor vehicle and road transport traffic.
